Marvel's Wolverine is one week away, and Insomniac has one last set of claws to show
There is not much runway left for Marvel's Wolverine. Insomniac's latest trailer is no longer trying to introduce the game from scratch; it is assembling the pieces players have seen throughout 2026 and letting Logan tear through them.
Marvel's Wolverine launches globally on September 15, and Sony used its September 3 State of Play to begin the final countdown with a new launch trailer.
Jean Grey and the members of Team X receive another spotlight, while Bolivar Trask's campaign against mutantkind continues to drive the larger conflict. Logan may prefer operating alone, but Insomniac has built a surprisingly crowded story around him.
Momentum is the combat system
Insomniac describes Wolverine's fighting style as aggressive and close-range. Claw attacks, kicks, critical strikes and parries are designed to keep Logan moving toward enemies instead of circling them from a safe distance.
Players can equip four Special Techniques at once. Techniques shown so far include Tornado Spin, Knee Breaker and Spiral Strike, while a broader Adaptation system can adjust bullet resistance, Rage effectiveness, parry timing and other combat properties.

Rage uses a three-tier pool tied first to survivability, then resilience and finally outright fury. Insomniac is treating it as part of the rhythm of a fight rather than a detached super move waiting at the edge of the HUD.
Logan has no shortage of people trying to kill him
Omega Red, Deathstrike and Sabretooth are among the major threats already confirmed. Mystique remains part of the wider cast, while the Reavers and The Hand give Logan separate enemy factions to cut through.
Trask's Sentinel program adds a very different kind of opponent. The launch trailer arrives after months of reveals rather than replacing them, so much of its impact comes from seeing those characters and factions finally assembled around the same story.
This is not Spider-Man with shorter arms
PlayStation explicitly describes Marvel's Wolverine as a narrative-driven single-player action adventure rather than an open-world game.
The journey still spans several locations, including Madripoor, Canada and Tokyo. Between combat encounters, Logan can use his heightened senses to find Nightmare Doors, collectible whisky bottles associated with lost memories and material crates used for crafting.
Suit options draw from Wolverine's history across comics, movies and animation. Insomniac has already referenced Weapon X, Old Man Logan, Ultimate Wolverine and Patch, alongside different claw designs.
The launch build already has an endgame plan
New Game Plus includes exclusive Techniques and additional level caps. Mission Replay brings back selected story segments, while Nightmare Challenges focus on high-score combat and traversal.
Photo Mode is scheduled through a day-one update. Insomniac is also shipping more than 100 new, returning or improved accessibility features, including High Contrast visuals, Global Game Speed, English Audio Description and Strong Haptic Signals.
Marvel's Wolverine launches exclusively for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
