Marvel's Wolverine is finally out on PS5, and Insomniac has taken the leash off Logan
Marvel's Wolverine launches September 15 on PS5 with a surprisingly clear design choice behind it. Insomniac is not giving Logan another giant superhero sandbox. It is putting the claws, the aggression and the man carrying them at the center of a focused single-player adventure.
After years of waiting, Marvel's Wolverine is available on PlayStation 5. Sony describes it as a narrative-driven single-player action-adventure and explicitly says it is not an open-world game.
That distinction matters. Insomniac could easily have reused the broad shape of its Spider-Man games and replaced web-swinging with motorcycles and claws. Instead, everything shown around Wolverine points toward a more directed action game built around close-range pressure.
Rage is a system, not just a character trait
Successful attacks, parries and kills build Logan's Rage meter. Techniques add heavier combat moves to his standard claws and kicks, while four Special Techniques can be equipped at once. Adaptations then modify elements such as bullet resistance, Rage efficiency and parry timing.
Insomniac says there are dozens of Adaptations. That gives the combat a progression layer underneath the obvious spectacle of Wolverine carving through Reavers.

Rage itself is divided into three tiers and connects aggression to survivability. Logan's healing factor is not just background lore either: it feeds directly into his ability to recover when a fight has gone badly. At the other extreme, pushing Rage further can turn the encounter into something considerably nastier.
The blood is deliberate
Insomniac has never been shy about what kind of Wolverine it is making. The game is violent and gory, with dismemberment and bloody combat forming part of the presentation. Players who would rather dial that back get dedicated violence settings, along with adult-language filtering options.
There is considerably more going on than a sequence of executions. Logan returns to Team X three years after walking away, as Bolivar Trask's campaign against mutants escalates. The Reavers are hunting mutants, Jean Grey is caught in the same conflict and characters including Omega Red enter the picture.

The story moves through Canada, Tokyo and Madripoor. Away from the main path, players can track down combat and traversal challenges, materials, whisky bottles tied to Logan's missing memories and a collection of suits drawing on different versions of Wolverine.
A smaller shape may suit Wolverine better
The interesting part is what Insomniac has chosen not to carry over. There is no promise of another giant map buried under activities simply because the studio knows how to build one. Wolverine is structured around a story pulling Logan forward, with optional diversions sitting around that path rather than replacing it.
New Game Plus, Mission Replay and Nightmare Challenges provide reasons to revisit the combat systems. Photo Mode is also part of the launch-day update.
Marvel's Wolverine is out September 15 for PS5 and is PS5 Pro Enhanced. For years it was the project people kept waiting to see properly. Now there is nothing left to tease: Logan is out.
