Modern Warfare 4 puts Price on the run while its campaign opens a second front in Korea
Captain Price is no longer simply the man Call of Duty sends in to solve disasters. In Modern Warfare 4, his actions have become serious enough that Ghost and Gaz are tasked with bringing him in. Meanwhile, another story begins half a world away with young South Korean soldiers thrown into a fictional invasion. The Tokyo Game Show trailer finally shows how Infinity Ward intends to make those two campaigns collide.

Activision released a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign trailer on September 17 during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 Broadcast.
The game launches October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Digital Standard and Vault Edition pre-orders can begin the campaign on October 16.
Price has become his old team's problem
Modern Warfare 4 follows the assassination of General Shepherd at the end of Modern Warfare III. Task Force 141 has been disbanded and John Price now operates outside the command structure that previously protected him.
Ghost and Gaz are no longer automatically following his lead. The new trailer instead emphasises an internal split, with Price's methods becoming difficult enough to defend that his former teammates are ordered to find him.
Kate Laswell remains in contact, but even that relationship appears increasingly strained.
Price's solution is to work with Valeria
His position becomes considerably messier with the return of Valeria Garza, El Sin Nombre and leader of the Las Almas Cartel.
Infinity Ward is therefore placing Price in almost the opposite situation to his traditional role: separated from his unit, hunted by former allies and dependent on somebody he previously considered an enemy.
That storyline unfolds alongside the open war shown in Korea.
The other half of the campaign sees the conflict from the ground
A second narrative thread follows Private Park Hyun Jun and a squad of young South Korean soldiers during the game's fictional North Korean invasion of South Korea.
Infinity Ward previously introduced Park, Jay, Cho and Moon alongside embedded American Marines including West and Dunn. Several members of the group are conscripts rather than veteran operators.
Their missions involve infantry, armour, air support and an amphibious assault as coalition forces attempt to hold and retake occupied territory.
Modern Warfare is returning to a more directed campaign structure
Infinity Ward describes the campaign as a return to the large, cinematic mission variety that historically defined the series.
Announced scenarios include trench fighting in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, high-speed pursuits through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai and large urban assaults.
The studio is emphasising significant variation between missions rather than repeating one open-ended template.
A mysterious weapon is supposed to connect the two stories
The new trailer also expands the role of an antagonist currently known as The Archer.
An unidentified weapon described as capable of dramatically altering the conflict is being transported to him, while Laswell and Price attempt to determine what it is as the situation in Korea escalates.
Infinity Ward is deliberately withholding the weapon's exact nature.
Digital pre-orders receive the campaign one week early
Campaign Early Access begins October 16 on Xbox Series, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2 for qualifying digital editions.
The full game follows on October 23 with Multiplayer and the new DMZ experience.
The TGS trailer does not change Modern Warfare 4's release plan. It changes Price's position inside it: after three games of gradually crossing lines, this campaign begins with him already standing on the other side.
