BALL x PIT is done digging down: its expansion climbs back up with 24 new balls and eight characters
BALL x PIT spent a year asking how much farther players could descend. Risen Ballbylon literally reverses the problem. The elevator is going back up, above the abyss toward the floating remains of the old city, while Kenny Sun adds enough new build variables to ruin several more evenings.
Kenny Sun and Friends and Devolver Digital revealed BALL x PIT: Risen Ballbylon during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct on September 20.
The expansion launches November 12, 2026 on all platforms for $6.99.
It is the game's first major paid expansion after three large free updates. Devolver describes it as the biggest and most transformative BALL x PIT expansion so far.
This time the elevator goes up
The setup is almost suspiciously neat. The base game sends treasure hunters deeper beneath the ruins of Ballbylon. Risen Ballbylon uses the same elevator in the opposite direction.
Pieces of the former city are still floating above the abyss. Each new level represents another layer of that suspended Ballbylon, populated by creatures warped by the meteor's effects.
The expansion cannot be entered immediately on a new save. Players must complete the base game before the route upward becomes available.
This is therefore explicitly an endgame extension rather than a handful of levels inserted into the original progression.
Four battlefields bring four new bosses and more than 40 enemies
Risen Ballbylon contains four new battlefields.
Each has its own boss, with more than 40 new enemy types spread across the expansion.
That quantity matters differently in BALL x PIT than it would in a game where an enemy is mostly another health bar. Enemy waves become moving geometry: size, density and movement constantly change the available ricochet angles.
A creature does not require extraordinarily complex AI to alter a run. Sometimes it only needs to occupy exactly the wrong part of the screen.
Eight new characters mean eight more ways to break the rules
The base game already treats characters as structural modifiers rather than simple stat packages. Risen Ballbylon adds eight more.
The Sentinel can aim in any direction, immediately breaking the usual upward-firing logic.
The Wallbreaker's balls warp to the opposite side the first time they strike a wall.
The Right Hand Man turns half the arena into a damage calculation: balls deal double damage when they hit the right wall and only half when they strike the left.
They are short character descriptions with enormous consequences for trajectory planning. That is very much how BALL x PIT works.
Twenty-four additional balls make fusion even less manageable
The expansion adds 24 new balls.

Beast Ball attaches itself to enemies and keeps dealing damage until they die. Kaiju Ball creates earthquakes. Misfortune curses targets, while Hedgehog is a much more visibly spiky proposition.
The raw number only explains part of the change. Every new ball enters the existing fusion system and can interact with the arsenal already in the game.
BALL x PIT already contains more than 60 randomized balls to combine. Adding another 24 does not merely extend a checklist; it increases the number of possible builds players need to identify during a run.
Forty-five passives are coming, and Devolver is deliberately not explaining them
Risen Ballbylon also includes 45 new passives.
Confirmed names include Lucky Coin, Eldritch Gauntlet, Vampire's Kiss, Volatile Explosive and Relentless Whip.
Their actual effects have not been revealed. The official description directly says players will need to discover what they do for themselves.
That is worth preserving as an unknown. However suggestive those names may be, no specific mechanics have been confirmed for them yet.
Base building gets 20 structures and another resource
The construction side of BALL x PIT is expanding alongside combat.
Twenty new buildings can be added to New Ballbylon, including the Floating Fortress, Crystal Monolith, Soup Kitchen, Circus Tent and Fission Chamber.
Crystals become a new resource to mine.
That creates another layer in an economy already used to generate resources, unlock upgrades and assign inactive heroes to automated jobs while the active character is inside the pit.
Devolver describes base building as radically expanded, although the complete building list and individual functions have not yet been published.
Risen Ballbylon ends the all-free phase of post-launch support
BALL x PIT launched October 15, 2025. Kenny Sun and Friends has since released three major free updates.
The Regal Update added Endless Mode alongside new characters and eight balls.
The Shadow Update followed with additional heroes, more than ten balls and the Guildhall, which allows players to reroll previously chosen character upgrades.
The Naturalist Update arrived August 6, 2026 and was explicitly described as the final free major update. It added two characters, 11 balls and five passives.
A month and a half later, the transition is now clear: the next major content package costs $6.99.
The base game has passed two million copies sold
The Risen Ballbylon announcement also comes with another milestone. BALL x PIT has sold more than two million copies roughly a year after release.
That success makes the direction of the expansion easy enough to understand. This is not an attempt to rebuild the opening for new players; it targets the audience that already reached the bottom and learned the system.
Risen Ballbylon takes the mechanical pile accumulated since October 2025 and adds another stack above it.
On November 12, the elevator simply changes direction.
