Until Dawn 2 launches January 28, and a bad relationship may kill someone long before the monster does
Until Dawn already understood that one hurried button press could kill somebody hours later. Until Dawn 2 adds a variable that is harder to read: what its characters think of each other. On January 28, 2027, eight fake ghost hunters arrive on a genuinely haunted island carrying enough internal tension to cause trouble before any creature gets involved.
Firesprite will release Until Dawn 2 on January 28, 2027 for PlayStation 5.
The sequel is designed as a standalone story. It replaces the original group and does not require players to complete the Blackwood Mountain story before entering this one.
The central promise remains familiar: multiple playable characters, one extremely bad night, and enough branching decisions that everybody can survive or everybody can die.
Dead True built a career around ghosts that were not actually there
The new group runs a paranormal channel called Dead True.
Owen, Mina, Nate, Reagan, Izzy, Luke, Josie and Cameron became popular producing ghost-hunting videos despite never encountering anything genuinely supernatural before the game begins.
Firesprite openly describes some of their scares as staged.
A viral stunt eventually earns the team a deal with a major television network, turning their online operation into a properly funded production.
Blackwood Sanatorium becomes a terrible prologue to what should have been easy television
The latest trailer shows Dead True filming an episode at Blackwood Sanatorium.
They are specifically exploiting the tragedy that occurred twelve years earlier, directly connecting the production to the events of the original Until Dawn.
Izzy, the team's new intern played by Sarah Catherine Hook, uncovers something unexpected that changes their plans.
Firesprite has not revealed exactly what she finds.
Akishima Island takes over from there
At HorrorCon in Sydney, the group meets Yoona, played by Gia Kim.
She claims to have survived a supernatural attack and reveals a dark necrotic scar as evidence.
Her story sends Dead True toward Akishima Island, a remote South Pacific location where a luxury resort has been abandoned since a mysterious shutdown in the 1970s.

Firesprite says the island is hiding secrets that are centuries old.
The studio is deliberately withholding the exact nature of the supernatural threat, leaving the location more mysterious than a simple catalogue of monsters.
The Butterfly Effect now pays closer attention to relationships
Large decisions return, but Firesprite is putting unusual emphasis on smaller interactions.
Some branches become available or unavailable depending on the relationship between characters.
A remark, betrayal, secret affair or supportive decision may alter a later sequence before the game ever presents an obviously life-or-death prompt.
The studio says even small character moments can trigger their own Butterfly Effect.
The new trailer already gives Owen a difficult example
Owen, played by Dacre Montgomery, has to decide whether to follow a signal leading toward his missing friend Nate, played by Spence Moore II, or cross a rickety bridge to investigate a strangely lively bar.

Neither route is presented as correct.
The bar might contain useful clues. Leaving Nate's trail could also expose him to whatever is waiting in the darkness.
That is classic Until Dawn logic: a choice that is completely reasonable with the information available can become disastrous several scenes later.
Mina can sacrifice the chicken or offer her own blood
The second demonstrated choice is considerably stranger.
Mina, played by Camila Senna, is ordered by the network to perform a ritual sacrifice live on camera.
She can sacrifice the chicken travelling with the group, or release it and use her own blood for the ritual instead.
The example confirms that choices are not limited to selecting physical routes. Dead True's professional pressure and obsession with producing content are themselves becoming decision engines.
AdHoc Studio is helping build the story
Firesprite partnered with AdHoc Studio on the narrative.
The team behind Dispatch is contributing to the characters, dialogue and relationship-driven structure.
That partnership fits the design goal neatly: the crew's friendships, resentments and romantic complications can generate consequences as meaningful as the decisions made during an attack.
Firesprite remains the primary developer.
Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Hill
Dr. Hill is the only character from the original Until Dawn officially confirmed to return.

Peter Stormare reprises the role.
Firesprite still has not explained why the psychiatrist appears in this story or how he connects to a new cast on a different island.
That ambiguity is fairly appropriate for a character whose original purpose depended heavily on how the player understood what they were seeing.
Everybody can still survive, or nobody can
Sony confirms the Butterfly Effect system returns and every member of the new group can survive the story.
The opposite outcome is possible as well.
Dialogue, exploration choices and quick reactions can send the story toward multiple endings.
Until Dawn 2 launches exclusively on PS5. Pre-orders are open now for the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions.
January 28 will ultimately test whether Firesprite can make eight influencers who fake hauntings convincing enough that players genuinely regret the moment their footage stops being staged.
