Patlabor: The Case Files is out, and its real star may be the entire SV2 garage
A Patlabor game could easily have centred everything on the Ingram and called it a day. The Case Files instead opens the hangar. Its PS5 and PC release brings more than 20 pilotable Labors, story missions from both sides of familiar conflicts and an upcoming connection to the new Patlabor EZY project.
Patlabor: The Case Files has launched on PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Good Smile Company lists September 17, 2026 as its official launch date, following 72-hour early access for the PS5 Digital Deluxe Edition.
It is a single-player 3D action game developed by Chime.
The missions deliberately change sides
Rather than presenting every incident exclusively through Special Vehicles Section 2, the campaign is divided between Main Missions and Another Side Missions.
The former place the player with SV2, while the latter allow the machines opposing them to become playable.
That suits Patlabor unusually well. Griffon and other rival Labors have always been part of the mechanical identity of the franchise rather than disposable bosses.
The roster is broader than a collection of Ingram variants
Good Smile says more than 20 Labors appear in the game.
The AV-98 Ingrams remain central, but Type-J9 Griffon, Type Zero and a long sequence of supporting machines also become controllable. Much of the pre-launch marketing was devoted to individual unit introduction trailers rather than simply replaying story footage.

That makes the project function partly as a catalogue of Patlabor mechanical design, one where the machines can finally be compared through direct control rather than model sheets.
Simulator Mode strips away the narrative context
The separate Simulator Mode provides shooting drills and Labor-versus-Labor battles.
It gives less prominent units somewhere to exist outside their specific story appearance and creates a cleaner space for learning how different machines handle.

Good Smile even tied the physical Special Edition into that mode: its exclusive Griffon model corresponds to a special in-game colour variation usable in the simulator.
The first update is already reacting to players
The launch build is not being treated as final.
Feedback from PS5 early access has already produced one confirmed October change: improved shooting accuracy while Assist Mode is enabled.
The adjustment sounds small, but it touches a recurring problem for mech games. Machines need enough inertia to feel heavy without turning basic targeting into unnecessary friction.
Patlabor EZY is joining the game next
Good Smile has also confirmed an Ingram Plus DLC based on Patlabor EZY.
The new animated project is structured across three theatrical files, and the second is currently screening in Japan. The DLC is still in development, with no release date or price announced.
That gives The Case Files a direct bridge between older Patlabor material and the franchise's current continuation.
PC requirements stay relatively modest
The Steam version occupies 15GB. Minimum specifications pair a GTX 1060 6GB or RX 580 8GB with a stated 1080p, 30fps target using several Medium settings.
The recommended tier moves to an RTX 2060 Super or RX 5700 XT, with Good Smile explicitly targeting 1080p and 60fps at High settings.
Japanese audio is accompanied by English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean text support.
The most interesting part of The Case Files is therefore not that Patlabor finally received another game. It is that the adaptation seems to understand that the franchise was never about one heroic robot. It was about a workplace full of machines, crews and very expensive problems.
