VOID DIVER passes 250,000 Steam wishlists without launching, then refuses to rush into Early Access

More than 250,000 Steam users have now wishlisted VOID DIVER: Escape from the Abyss. For an indie game combining extraction, pixel-art action RPG combat, cosmic horror and antique-shop management, that is becoming a difficult number to ignore. STUDIO NEMO's response, unusually, has been to slow down rather than sprint toward Early Access.

STUDIO NEMO announced on September 16 that VOID DIVER: Escape from the Abyss had passed 250,000 Steam wishlists. The milestone arrives less than three months after the game crossed 200,000 during Steam Next Fest.

It also lands as VOID DIVER appears at Tokyo Game Show 2026 in the Indie Game Area through publisher RED BRICK HOUSE.

The show-floor build is not a special event demo. Visitors are playing the same version currently available for free on Steam.

Extraction begins inside a city that stopped respecting normal geometry

VOID DIVER turns a familiar modern city into a sprawling dungeon distorted by otherworldly forces. Divers enter those spaces to recover artifacts, complete requests and escape with whatever they manage to carry out.

Expeditions can be tackled solo or cooperatively with up to three players. Characters have distinct skills and progression paths, while weapons, accessories and recovered relics provide further build customisation.

The threat list is deliberately broad: supernatural creatures, rogue machines, urban legends and humans driven into madness all appear inside the distorted city.

Escaping alive does not necessarily mean escaping cleanly

One of the more interesting extraction systems concerns damage that survives the expedition itself.

Dungeon runs generate stress, and reaching dangerous levels can trigger unusual phenomena. Paradoxes go further: these curses can remain attached to a Diver even after returning from an expedition and need to be cured later.

A successful extraction can therefore still bring a problem home.

Then you sell cosmic nightmares in an antique store

Between runs, players manage BALUSHA, an antique shop operating in a city where anomalous objects have become common enough to sustain an economy.

Recovered artifacts can be traded, the business can grow and Divers can be prepared for future expeditions. Shop activity also feeds the broader story by exposing more information about forbidden relics and the city's transformation.

The result is a deliberately strange rhythm: survive a hostile extraction run, return to the shop, then decide what somebody might pay for the impossible object you just dragged home.

Steam Next Fest changed the development plan

VOID DIVER became one of the 50 most-played demos during June's Steam Next Fest. At the time of this check, its free demo also carried a Very Positive overall user rating on Steam from more than a thousand reviews.

STUDIO NEMO says feedback from those players is now shaping the full game. Planned work includes character-specific talent trees, more equipment and artifacts, additional chapters and dungeon content, new Divers, expanded shop and VIP systems, character and Automaton cosmetics, side activities, and broader tutorial and UI improvements.

No rushed Early Access release

After Next Fest, some players asked the studio to release an Early Access version quickly. Others encouraged the team to spend longer building a more complete launch version.

STUDIO NEMO chose the latter. Its stated priority is now a polished full release rather than an earlier commercial build designed to capitalise immediately on the current attention.

Steam still lists the game for 2026, without a more specific date.

TGS does not change the demo, but it changes the audience

At Tokyo Game Show, visitors can play through the same content available on Steam, including progress into Chapter 2. Sessions are capped at fifteen minutes when queues form; without a queue, attendees can continue for longer.

STUDIO NEMO is also teasing additional information about characters, monsters and full-release content.

For now, the clearest number is 250,000. VOID DIVER still has no exact launch date, but the line forming outside its abyss is considerably larger than it was a few months ago.
