Valor Mortis is going with a $39.99 price because it does not want players choosing between it and every October blockbuster
Valor Mortis is not pretending that a new IP can simply walk into one of 2026's busiest release windows and demand full-price blockbuster money. One More Level has set its standard edition at $39.99 and is positioning the game as something players can buy alongside a major release rather than instead of one.

The number is now official: $39.99, €39.99 or 149.99 zł for the standard edition when Valor Mortis launches on October 13 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
One More Level says it still considers the roughly 20-hour campaign, production values and overall fidelity capable of standing beside many full-price games. The lower price is therefore not being framed as an admission that Valor Mortis is a smaller or lesser product.
The interesting part is the word “and”
Lyrical Games' reasoning is built around a very simple problem: too many games are competing for the same money and the same free evenings this fall. October has become particularly congested as publishers arrange schedules around other major launches, with Grand Theft Auto VI looming in November.
Valor Mortis is supposed to become an “and” purchase. Buy the giant release you were already planning to play, and perhaps pick up this strange first-person Napoleonic Soulslike as well.
That is a considerably more believable ambition for a new AA property than acting as though every launch needs to dominate the conversation on its own.
No pre-order campaign
There will also be no pre-orders. One More Level says it would rather let the completed game demonstrate its quality, creativity and craft before asking players for money.
The decision comes after Valor Mortis moved from September 24 to October 13. The developer said the original September window had become overcrowded and that the additional time would also be used to improve the game with feedback gathered from its Steam demo.
No countdown to an exclusive pre-order hat, then.
The Deluxe edition takes the conventional route
There is still a more expensive version. The $59.99 / €59.99 Deluxe Edition includes cosmetic packs and access to a major story expansion planned for next year.
One More Level also says several free updates will arrive after launch and add more ways to play. Details on those updates remain limited for now.
A Soulslike from the Ghostrunner studio, viewed through William's eyes
The pricing discussion is unusual because the game itself is not exactly playing things safe. Valor Mortis shifts One More Level's first-person action expertise from Ghostrunner into a Soulslike built around parries, dashes, firearms, melee weapons and supernatural abilities.
Its protagonist, William, is a former soldier of Napoleon's Grande Armée who rises from the dead in an alternate 19th-century Europe consumed by a mysterious plague. Progression also feeds back into exploration as new abilities open previously inaccessible paths.
The full version arrives October 13.
