Aniimo is live with 200+ creatures and one clever idea to separate it from the monster-catching crowd

Another creature-collecting RPG has entered a very busy field. Aniimo launches today with more than 200 creatures, a large open world and Twining, a mechanic that lets players effectively become the Aniimo they have collected.

Aniimo is now live on Windows PC, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox. Pawprint Studio launched the free-to-play RPG on September 16 after multiple testing phases and a pre-registration campaign that cleared 30 million sign-ups.

iOS and Android versions arrive on September 23. Pawprint says PC and mobile share progression, allowing players to sign into the same account and continue an existing character on mobile.

Catching monsters is only half the idea

Aniimo has an obvious challenge: creature collecting is no longer a genre in which a colourful roster alone guarantees much attention. Pawprint's answer is Twining.

A Pathfinder can merge with a captured Aniimo and directly use that creature's abilities. The mechanic feeds into combat, puzzles and traversal, with different creatures allowing players to glide, dive, burrow and approach parts of Idyll from a different perspective.

Creature appearances can also depend on location, weather, environmental phenomena and time of day. Most Aniimo can evolve.

More than 200 creatures are available at launch

Pawprint says the launch roster contains more than 200 Aniimo. Newly highlighted additions include Squarrel and its evolution Squashel, squirrel-like creatures whose movement and combo attacks make heavy use of their oversized tails.

Several progression systems have changed since testing. The Legendary Irisalis encounter has been redesigned, the Held Item system has been simplified, Star Dust drop rates have increased and progression caps now unlock alongside creature levels more naturally.

Idyll also has multiplayer, PvEvP and a home to decorate

The open world includes activities beyond catching and training. Egg Heist is a PvEvP mode built around three-player teams searching the Lost Isles while fighting both environmental threats and rival players.

Pathfinders also have their own RV and Homeland space. Crops can be planted, decorations crafted and the area arranged alongside collected Aniimo. Pawprint says Homeland progression and its map have both been expanded for launch.

It is free-to-play, but there are in-game purchases

Aniimo can be downloaded without an upfront purchase. Console listings confirm optional in-game purchases, while the launch ecosystem includes premium currency, login rewards, outfits, catching items and eggs distributed through events.

Paid pre-launch packs have also included items and Battle Pass content. That makes the long-term balance between collection, progression and monetisation one of the more important things to watch after the launch rush settles.

Pawprint is already warning about launch-day congestion

The developer says players may encounter login queues or slower loading as servers deal with launch traffic. It is also asking users to report stuttering, bugs and unexpected behaviour through the in-game support system.

Aniimo is available now on PC, PS5 and Xbox. iOS and Android join the rollout on September 23.
