Ocarina of Time did not need a lesson in historical importance. The harder problem was deciding how much of a 1998 control scheme should survive untouched. Nintendo's answer is now clear: the remake preserves the adventure, but it is willing to change the hands controlling it.

There are easier Zelda games to remake. Ocarina of Time carries nearly three decades of expectations, design history and very specific memories with it. Nintendo is bringing that game back on Switch 2 in 2026, but has so far revealed remarkably little about what it intends to change.
