Warframe's road to Tau is finally taking shape: latest hotfix, Iceblade of Narin and the late-2026 roadmap
Warframe is between updates in the most literal sense. Its public PC patch history still ends with Amir's Shockwave Hotfix 43.5.4, while Digital Extremes is preparing Iceblade of Narin for September 23. Beyond that, the studio has already dated Taubound and Devstream 198, with Tau itself still expected before the end of 2026.

The current patch history still ends with 43.5.4
At the time of checking, Digital Extremes' official PC patch page had not yet replaced Amir's Shockwave as the newest listed release. Hotfix 43.5.4 therefore remains the latest published entry there, even though Iceblade of Narin is scheduled for September 23.
It is a maintenance-heavy hotfix. The patch repairs the unusually dark Backroom lighting, a Yareli Last Gasp issue involving Merulina, broken Surge Eximus behavior after Silence, problems with the Tempera Amp Skin and several animation and scripting bugs.
Performance fixes also target Arthur's Exalted Blade, Quincy's Neutralizer and Surge Eximus electrical attacks. A Baruuk Elude crash is on the list as well.
Narin is the beginning of the next sequence
Iceblade of Narin adds Warframe number 66, built around Cold Status, freezing and a mobile sword-dancer style. Her equipment includes the Nunchasa bow and Aksondol dual pistols.
The update also opens Yuvan Peak on Earth, returning to a location connected to the choice made during The War Within. Cephalon Melica gains a larger role, while a newly discovered area aboard the Zariman introduces Entropic Eximus enemies.
Those enemies can drop Entropic Kuva, which feeds into Melica's new reward economy and the acquisition path for Narin's blueprints.
Rivens and Banshee get changes that affect older gear
Riven progression is becoming less dependent on completely blind rerolls. Digital Extremes says players will be able to preserve particular Riven traits using Kuva, while Riven Splicers will combine traits into new possibilities from a dedicated pool.
Banshee receives a broader Ability rework focused on stronger synergy, survivability and usability. Anyone logging in between September 23 and October 7 is due to receive a base Banshee and a built Forma for free.
Citrine Prime Access is also scheduled to begin on September 23.
The six-player mode has quietly moved beyond launch day
Glacial Defiance was one of the headline features shown during Devstream 197, but Digital Extremes' current Iceblade of Narin page contains an important scheduling note: the mode is expected in the weeks after the main update rather than necessarily on September 23.
The concept itself has not changed. Up to six Tenno can participate, with Cryobells from Yuvan Peak adding reward opportunities and squad-wide modifiers. It is explicitly pitched at veteran teams looking for a higher-level gear check.
That makes Iceblade of Narin less of a single-day content dump and more of the first stage in a rolling autumn release.
Taubound starts on October 15
Epoch Operation: Taubound is the next fixed date. Beginning October 15, the community will help power the Sentient mothership Praghasa so it can open a path toward Tau.
Missions across Eris will provide Moonflesh for the operation. Digital Extremes says the event will include exclusive rewards and daily login messages.
Newer players can participate after completing Vor's Prize, so the community portion is deliberately much less restrictive than the narrative requirements surrounding Tau itself.
The narrative route has stricter requirements
Players looking to follow the full Prologue to Tau will need to complete The Hex and The Old Peace. That mini-quest continues the latter's story and is expected to uncover lost memories involving the Lotus.
Veteran progression also matters for Vessel-related content, while players below those requirements can still contribute to Taubound and claim event rewards.
October 30 is the next major reveal
Digital Extremes has already dated Devstream 198 for October 30 and says the broadcast will focus on the first part of Tau.
Tau itself is still described only as a 2026 release. It will take Warframe beyond the Origin System and into a new binary-star region, including the Sentient ring city of Fornax.
So the practical roadmap now runs from Iceblade of Narin on September 23 to Glacial Defiance in the following weeks, Taubound on October 15 and the Tau-focused Devstream on October 30. The full Tau chapter remains the destination later in 2026.
