Uncanyon bends reality itself, and the Maquette team has found a much stranger puzzle

Graceful Decay built Maquette around recursive scale. For Uncanyon, the studio is moving on to something less tidy: several realities occupying the same space, with the player deciding how much of each one gets to remain.

Sonia enters a forgotten world caught at the seam of what Graceful Decay calls unparallel realities. The basic trick is not simply jumping from one version of the environment to another. Devices powered by fragmentstone allow her to bring alternate realities into the space around her.

Paths can appear. Hazards can vanish. Obstacles move while the room itself changes state.

The transition is part of the puzzle

Uncanyon becomes considerably more interesting once the transformation stops being binary. Players can freeze the blending process at any point and walk through the hybrid environment left behind.

That means a room is not necessarily solved by discovering which of two realities contains the useful route. The useful state may exist somewhere between them. A doorway can become accessible while another part of the same blend introduces a new danger.

Graceful Decay is effectively turning the transition itself into puzzle space. It is a small distinction in the description and potentially the entire game in practice.

Ruins that were built to keep Sonia out

The studio is also placing more weight on traditional dungeon logic. Uncanyon's temples contain locks, traps and mechanical puzzles created, within the fiction, to protect whatever their builders left behind.

Sonia gradually gathers records, ancient equipment and fragmentstone devices, building a compact toolkit rather than receiving a giant menu of unrelated abilities. Graceful Decay says it wants the resulting puzzles to deliver genuine discovery instead of functioning as light interruptions between story beats.

Exploration extends across five semi-open regions, with optional mysteries intended to survive well beyond the critical path. Some of them are specifically being positioned as long-form problems for players who keep digging after the main story is finished.

Being the chosen hero is apparently the problem

Sonia initially reaches Uncanyon looking for adventure. The situation becomes less charming when she discovers that the world appears to expect her to save it.

Graceful Decay says her story draws on family expectations and the quieter pressures created by social media. Heroism is therefore treated partly as an obligation imposed from outside, not simply a convenient invitation to become powerful.

Uncanyon is scheduled for 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. A specific release date has not been announced.
