Colorful creatures bouncing through fields, rabbit-eared slimes and a glass conservatory filled with unusual inhabitants are coming to Nintendo Switch 2.

Monomi Park announced during the October 28, 2026 Nintendo Indie World Showcase that Slime Rancher 2 is scheduled to launch on the platform in January 2027.

The announcement also includes an exclusive in-game toy named the Glo Glo Squiggle.

This is a new console edition of an existing game rather than a previously unreleased sequel. Slime Rancher 2 reached its full release on other platforms in September 2025.

Beatrix LeBeau reaches another console

Slime Rancher 2 continues the adventures of Beatrix LeBeau, the protagonist of the original Slime Rancher.

Her latest journey takes her across the Slime Sea to Rainbow Island, a mysterious location filled with unusual wildlife, ancient technology and valuable resources.

Players explore its colorful landscapes while discovering new creatures and investigating the island's secrets.

The adventure also involves establishing a ranch inside a large glass conservatory overlooking the environment.

This building serves as the center of the player's operations, providing space to keep slimes, develop equipment and prepare for further exploration.

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition is an adaptation of the existing adventure. Monomi Park has not announced an additional campaign exclusive to Nintendo.

The exclusive Glo Glo Squiggle

The newly announced Switch 2 edition includes an item called the Glo Glo Squiggle.

Monomi Park identifies it as an exclusive in-game toy.

The announcement does not establish its precise gameplay effects or how players will obtain it.

There is therefore no confirmation that the toy changes slime production, improves equipment or unlocks additional areas.

For now, it is a confirmed platform-specific bonus with further details still to be revealed.

Collecting and caring for slimes

Slime Rancher 2 builds upon the simulation systems of the original game.

Beatrix uses a vacpack to collect objects, resources and slimes before transporting them to appropriate locations.

Captured creatures can be kept in enclosures, where players provide food and manage their needs.

Slimes produce resources known as plorts, which can be sold for newbucks.

That currency allows players to expand the ranch, upgrade equipment and purchase additional facilities.

The progression system combines exploration, resource management and learning how different creatures behave.

Rather than simply collecting as many slimes as possible, players need to consider how species interact and how their ranch should be organized.

New creatures on Rainbow Island

The sequel introduces species that were not present in the original adventure.

Officially highlighted examples include the Cotton Slime, whose long ears resemble those of a rabbit.

Other creatures include the sleepy Sloomber Slime and the unusual Twin Slime.

Discovering new species creates additional possibilities for ranch development and encourages continued exploration.

Different regions also contain distinctive resources and environmental conditions.

This creates a rhythm between expeditions across the island and returning home to improve the conservatory.

The Grey Labyrinth and expanded world

Slime Rancher 2 has grown significantly since its initial Early Access launch.

Monomi Park introduced new areas including Powderfall Bluffs and the Grey Labyrinth.

The Grey Labyrinth features additional puzzles, unusual environments, hidden locations and mysteries connected to the island's history.

It also introduces Prisma Disruptions, phenomena that can change the properties of the surrounding world.

The game also includes dynamic weather, with rain, wind, thunderstorms and more unusual environmental events.

According to Monomi Park, weather conditions can influence the environment and certain slime-related phenomena.

The Nintendo edition has been presented as a port of Slime Rancher 2. Its exact feature parity has not yet been independently established.

From Early Access to the full release

Slime Rancher 2 initially entered Early Access on September 22, 2022, for PC and Xbox Series X|S.

A PlayStation 5 edition followed on June 11, 2024.

The full version 1.0 launched on September 23, 2025, ending the original Early Access development period.

The January 2027 release therefore expands the game's platform availability rather than representing its initial commercial debut.

What remains unknown about Switch 2?

Nintendo and Monomi Park have confirmed January 2027 as the release window, but have not announced a specific date.

The Nintendo Switch 2 price is also unconfirmed.

No official frame-rate target, resolution or detailed comparison with existing versions has been established.

The PC edition supports French interface text and subtitles, but the Switch 2 announcement does not independently detail every supported language.

Slime Rancher 2 is a single-player experience, and no new cooperative mode has been announced for Nintendo's console.

The confirmed platform is Nintendo Switch 2 rather than the original Nintendo Switch.

Beatrix LeBeau's next console destination is therefore set for January 2027, bringing Rainbow Island's exploration and ranch simulation to a new audience alongside one exclusive in-game toy.
