Satisfactory digs deeper with Core Values, its first paid expansion

After years of covering MASSAGE-2(A-B)b with conveyor belts ranging from sensible to gloriously excessive, Satisfactory is preparing its first major paid DLC. Core Values sends Pioneers underground, into a new environment built around the same mix of construction, exploration and automation.

FICSIT wants the underground too

Coffee Stain Studios unveiled Satisfactory: Core Values during the Big Break Showcase on September 29. The studio describes it as Satisfactory’s first paid DLC and a major expansion rather than a small collection of extra buildings or recipes.

Its defining move is simple: go down. Core Values will send Pioneers into the crust of MASSAGE-2(A-B)b, where they will develop an underground factory network. Coffee Stain has announced new resources, flora and fauna alongside additional buildings and production lines.

The basic language of Satisfactory remains intact. Construct, Automate, Explore and Exploit still defines the loop, except the environment can now push back with walls and ceilings. In an interview published around the reveal, art director Torsten Gunst described caves where space may sometimes be tighter than in the base game’s broad outdoor areas, while stressing that Satisfactory remains a sandbox about building factories and solving production challenges.

Factories with a few more walls around them

That physical change could be the most meaningful part of Core Values. Satisfactory normally gives factories plenty of room to spread outward, climb vertically or become absurd industrial monuments. Moving production underground naturally introduces harder spatial boundaries.

Coffee Stain is not presenting the expansion as a different kind of game, however. Production problems and factory design remain central, now supported by additional systems and content. The studio has also announced new creatures, recipes and a new narrative component, with more of MASSAGE-2(A-B)b’s world set to be uncovered as players venture deeper.

Several major questions remain unanswered. The expansion’s Steam page currently lists no specific release date, and Coffee Stain has not announced a price. The verified launch information also leaves some details about existing saves and the exact structure of the underground areas for later.

Paid DLC after years of updates

Core Values also marks a notable change in Satisfactory’s history. Coffee Stain supported the game throughout its lengthy Early Access period and beyond version 1.0 with free updates. Core Values now establishes a separate paid expansion while remaining tied to the existing game.

The Steam version requires the Satisfactory base game. Coffee Stain has also said development of Core Values will not end support for the original experience, with regular base-game updates expected to continue while the expansion is being developed.

There is still plenty behind the wall that Coffee Stain has not drilled through publicly. For now, Core Values establishes its central idea clearly enough: Satisfactory spent years giving players an entire horizon to industrialize. Its next frontier is underneath it.
