The Guild 1 Remake launches September 17, but its 12-player multiplayer comes later
The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410 is finally close enough to launch that Ashborne Games can draw a fairly hard line between what exists on September 17 and what remains on the roadmap. Business, dynasties and politics are in. Twelve-player multiplayer is not — at least not yet.
THQ Nordic and Ashborne Games have detailed the Early Access roadmap for The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410, which has now passed 300,000 Steam wishlists.
The September 17 build contains six cities: Graz, Kuttenberg, Nuremberg, Freiburg, Wrocław and tutorial settlement Landsfort Herle.
Eight professions are playable at launch: Smith, Tailor, Joiner, Stonemason, Priest, Innkeeper, Alchemist and Perfumer.
Early Access begins with people who make things
The profession list is heavily weighted toward production for a reason. Ashborne Games is opening Early Access around the economic foundation: workshops, employees, goods and marketplaces.
Players can expand businesses, assign workers and respond to changing demand while accumulating enough wealth and influence to move beyond being a simple craftsperson.
That focus also explains the game's August name change. Europa 1410 became The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410 because Ashborne Games wanted to make its reference point explicit. This is primarily a modern return to Europa 1400: The Guild, not an attempt to reproduce the more direct life-simulation style associated with The Guild 2 and The Guild 3.

The political game is already there
Businesses are only one route through the launch build. Characters can court partners, marry and produce heirs, allowing a campaign to continue across generations after its founder is gone.
Political offices are also available. Friendships, bribery and blackmail can be used to build influence around important citizens and move up the social hierarchy.
At higher offices, players can influence construction projects and legislation, including city walls and infrastructure.
The Stabby Update adds the professions currently missing for a reason
Thief, Robber and Guard are all being held for the first major post-launch update. Ashborne calls it The Stabby Update: Knives and Swords.
Those professions arrive alongside the systems they need. Guards will patrol streets, criminals will be able to break into homes and workplaces, and carts can be ambushed outside the city.
Combat is also scheduled for a major overhaul during the same update, with duels specifically singled out for substantial changes.
The Backstabby Update is where multiplayer begins
The second major update adds multiplayer for as many as 12 players in one game. That can mean cooperation or competition, with dynasty alliances, rivalries, challenges and new victory conditions.
Economy systems will expand at the same time. Ashborne wants city demand to matter more directly, allowing players to supply goods to encourage prosperity or deliberately withhold products when a shortage benefits their own strategy.
A new playable city is also included in this phase.
Two economic professions are being saved for 1.0
The Trader and Moneylender arrive with the full release. Traders will import and export valuable goods, while moneylenders handle currency exchange and loans.
Version 1.0 is also planned to introduce another new map and additional Guild-focused gameplay.
Ashborne Games has not attached release dates to the Stabby Update, the Backstabby Update or version 1.0.
The July delay gave launch day more content
Early Access was originally scheduled for July 16. After feedback from the demo, THQ Nordic and Ashborne moved it into September.
Content originally planned for the first post-launch update was folded into the new release build, including the tutorial map, interface improvements, automation for recurring business tasks and additional citizen and worker animations.
The result is a more substantial starting point on September 17. It is also a very explicit Early Access proposition: the economic and dynasty foundation arrives first, while crime, deeper combat and the full multiplayer layer will be built on top of it.
