Nintendo is cramming two Directs into 48 hours, with Zelda getting an entire show before Switch 2 takes over
Nintendo could have folded its Zelda anniversary plans into a normal September Direct. Instead, it has booked two separate presentations on consecutive days and a Treehouse Live session immediately after the second one.

The first broadcast is The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8 at 7 a.m. Pacific, or 4 p.m. in France. Nintendo says the presentation will last approximately 30 minutes.
Its official description is deliberately broad. The entire show will contain information related to The Legend of Zelda as Nintendo marks the franchise's 40th anniversary, but no individual announcement has been confirmed for the broadcast yet.
There is already one major Zelda project waiting for a date
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was officially revealed for Nintendo Switch 2 during the June Nintendo Direct. Nintendo describes the project as the Nintendo 64 classic being reborn for a new generation and still lists it for release in 2026.
That makes it an obvious game to watch going into an anniversary presentation, but an obvious possibility is still not a confirmed appearance. Nintendo has not published an agenda for September 8.
The same caution applies to everything else surrounding the anniversary. The only guaranteed part is the format itself: a dedicated half-hour Zelda presentation.
September 9 is about the Switch 2 winter lineup
Twenty-four hours later, Nintendo returns with a standard Direct. It begins at the same time and runs for roughly 45 minutes.
This second presentation has a much more specific hardware focus. Nintendo says it will concentrate primarily on games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this winter.
Several announced projects already sit around that window, including Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, while Xenoblade Genesis is further out in 2027. Nintendo has not confirmed which of its announced or unannounced titles will actually appear on September 9.
Treehouse Live continues after the announcements
The general Direct will not be the end of Nintendo's September 9 broadcast. A new Nintendo Treehouse: Live follows it with gameplay from selected titles featured during the presentation.
That means at least some games from the Direct will receive more than a trailer before the day is over. Nintendo has not named those games in advance.
Zelda gets to stay out of the general Direct's way
The unusual part is the separation. Zelda could easily have occupied a large block inside the 45-minute general showcase. Nintendo has instead given the anniversary its own day and kept the second broadcast focused on the broader Switch 2 schedule.
The result is roughly 75 minutes of Direct presentations across September 8 and 9 before the additional Treehouse gameplay is counted.
