Shogun 2 returns on October 13, and this Complete Edition is more than another DLC bundle
Total War: SHOGUN 2 is getting another life on modern PCs. SEGA and Creative Assembly have announced a new Complete Edition that combines the original game's content with a surprisingly broad technical refresh rather than simply rebundling fifteen-year-old DLC.

Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Complete Edition launches on October 13, 2026 for PC. Creative Assembly and MATABOO are developing the new release, which will be available through Steam, the Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG.
The package includes the original SHOGUN 2 campaign, Rise of the Samurai, Fall of the Samurai and the game's downloadable content. That part is expected. The more interesting work is happening around the old game itself.
A much larger selection of clans
More than 50 previously minor factions are becoming playable. For a campaign built around rival clans, geography, shifting diplomacy and the race to control Kyoto, that is a meaningful expansion without rewriting the fundamental rules of SHOGUN 2.
Creative Assembly has not yet published a complete breakdown of those new playable factions. The three major campaign eras remain intact, covering the rise of the samurai, the Sengoku period and the transition toward modern warfare in Fall of the Samurai.
The technical upgrade targets the parts that aged fastest
Complete Edition moves SHOGUN 2 to 64-bit and updates its lighting, shadows and textures. UI scaling for 1440p and 4K displays is included, alongside ultrawide support and modernised controls.
That may matter more than simply pushing higher-resolution textures. Strategy interfaces from 2011 were not designed around the pixel density of current monitors, and scaling is one of the first places an otherwise perfectly playable older PC game can start feeling ancient.
Colour-blind accessibility options are also being added. Japanese and Chinese receive full voice acting and text localisation in the new release.
There is one catch for the old mod scene
Integrated mod support is moving to Mod.io. Creative Assembly says mods made for the original SHOGUN 2 will not be directly compatible with Complete Edition.
The original game is not being deleted from existing libraries, so players who want to keep an established mod setup can continue using it there. From September 28, however, the standalone original will no longer be sold separately on Steam.
Steam buyers of Complete Edition will receive the original SHOGUN 2 and its DLC as part of the package.
Existing owners get the old DLC and a major discount
Current Steam owners will receive any legacy DLC they are missing at no additional cost. They will also qualify for a time-limited 75 percent loyalty discount on Complete Edition.
The upgraded release itself is therefore not a free patch. It sits alongside the original game as a separate version, while the older build remains playable for people who already own it.
Worldwide launch is scheduled for October 13, with SEGA listing October 14 for Japan because of the time-zone difference.
