Lollipop Chainsaw 2 is a real sequel, and Juliet clearly has no interest in becoming subtle

Lollipop Chainsaw has finally moved beyond restoring the 2012 game. Back2Back is a completely new Juliet Starling adventure from JP UNIVERSE, and its first playable TGS build suggests the developers understand what needs to survive: simple spectacle, ridiculous color and a chainsaw that can apparently solve both combat and transportation problems.

Lollipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back is officially planned for 2027 on PlayStation 5. No other platform has been confirmed yet. Dragami Games and NADA HOLDINGS are publishing, while JP UNIVERSE is handling development.

Juliet Starling returns in a new outfit with a redesigned chainsaw. Nick returns too, still attached to her belt as a severed head. Some character relationships are apparently beyond modernization.

San Romero has become a movie town

The rebuilt city is now called Jaredwood, a sprawling metropolis shaped around the film industry. A mysterious director traps Juliet inside his twisted zombie movie, forcing her and her allies into a new conflict involving creatures from the Corrupted Realm.

It is almost suspiciously appropriate for Lollipop Chainsaw. The original already looked like a collision between a horror comedy, music video and deliberately tasteless exploitation movie. The sequel has simply made the movie part literal.

The TGS demo keeps the combat vocabulary immediately readable

Players at Tokyo Game Show get roughly ten minutes with the current build. Cheer attacks are quick and work at shorter range, while chainsaw strikes are slower but cover more space and can cut through groups.

Revving the chainsaw fills its gauge, and that resource feeds into a Chainsaw Dash that lets Juliet turn the weapon into an aggressive movement tool. Early hands-on reports point toward chaining attacks and movement together rather than treating traversal as downtime between fights.

Candy still restores health.

The developers want responsiveness before complexity

Development director Yasuaki Nasu described the goal as creating action that simply feels good when players touch the controls, while making Juliet look appealing during that action. It is a revealing priority.

Back2Back is not currently being sold on an enormous skill tree or some radically reinvented combat framework. The team is talking about exaggerating the existing identity: a more striking Juliet, a more excessive world and a broader zombie roster.

The show-floor build mostly features familiar slow-moving zombies. Developers told 4Gamer that the finished game will also include faster, running variants and other enemy types.

There is original Lollipop Chainsaw DNA in the new team

Masahiro Yuki, who co-produced and worked on the scenario of the original game, is involved in Back2Back. Original main-character concept artist NekoshowguN is returning as well. Former Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata is participating through JP UNIVERSE as co-producer.

That continuity matters because Lollipop Chainsaw was always more dependent on personality than mechanical novelty. A blonde cheerleader with a chainsaw is easy to reproduce. The specific collision of kitsch, horror, pop culture and black comedy is harder.

There is still no precise release date. PlayStation 5 and a 2027 window are the only launch details currently confirmed.
