Ascendance gives the Long Sword even more counters, then adds a temporary overdrive on top
Capcom has reached the final weapon in its Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance showcase. The Long Sword closes the series with faster Boost-powered strings, reinforced counters and yet another reason to stay dangerously close to whatever is trying to flatten the hunter.
The Long Sword is the fourteenth weapon to receive an Ascendance Boosted Action breakdown. Its existing identity has not been thrown away: Spirit Gauge management, counters and precisely timed offensive responses still form the backbone of the weapon.
The Boost Bracer adds another layer. Energy builds through aggressive play, after which a hunter can activate Boost through a Boost Driver or other weapon-specific action and temporarily gain access to enhanced attacks and new routes through existing moves.
Spirit Gauge management now feeds an even busier offensive loop
Capcom highlights three broad changes for the Long Sword: attacking while building Spirit Gauge, improved combos and counters, and greater offset and stagger potential.
That means Ascendance is extending the weapon rather than replacing its resource loop. Spirit Gauge still matters, while Boost creates temporary windows in which that accumulated momentum can be converted into a faster and more aggressive sequence.

A counter can become the beginning of the next attack
The footage also demonstrates a Boost Driver response that lets the hunter prepare the Long Sword, move into position and answer an incoming monster attack with an offset action.
That is an important distinction. Defensive timing is being used to create another offensive opening rather than simply resetting the fight after avoiding damage.
Once Boost is active, the weapon gains quicker sequences and additional ways to continue pressure instead of repeatedly returning to neutral.
The Boost Bracer rewards exactly what Long Sword already likes doing
Ascendance's new system builds energy by encouraging the hunter to keep attacking. Activating Boost then creates a limited period where the weapon's individual strengths are amplified.
For Long Sword, the fit is almost suspiciously tidy. The weapon already asks players to turn successful attacks and counters into stronger Spirit Gauge states. Boost gives that process another peak rather than introducing an unrelated side mechanic.
Balance will be the more interesting question once players have frame data, motion values and actual Master Rank encounters to work with. More speed, stronger counters and additional stagger tools are not minor additions to an already flexible weapon.
Capcom has now shown all 14 weapon types
The weapon showcase began with the Great Sword on September 2 and continued daily through the rest of the roster. Long Sword closes that sequence.
Capcom has also said more weapon abilities and additional gameplay mechanics will be revealed later, so these breakdowns should not be treated as complete move lists for the expansion.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance launches in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The base game is required, with Ascendance adding Master Rank content, new locations, monsters and the Boost Bracer system.
