Fight Night is returning. Electronic Arts confirmed on October 21, 2026, that its long-dormant boxing franchise is back in pre-production, following an official teaser posted the previous day. Fight Night is finally coming back as EA revives its boxing franchise after 15 years

Fifteen years after Fight Night Champion, Electronic Arts has finally confirmed that its boxing series is making a comeback.

A short promotional announcement on October 20 introduced the revival, and the company's broader strategic update on October 21 provided an important additional detail: the new project is in pre-production.

That confirms development plans, but it should not be mistaken for evidence of an imminent release or a game already nearing completion.

Why Fight Night remains important

The original Fight Night launched in 2004 and helped establish a recognizable approach to boxing simulation on consoles.

Movement, defense, punching combinations and timing became central elements of the series' identity.

The most recent entry, Fight Night Champion, arrived in 2011. It introduced a cinematic story mode starring fictional boxer Andre Bishop, combining sporting competition with a more structured narrative.

Following that release, EA increasingly focused its combat-sports efforts on the UFC franchise.

Although boxing and mixed martial arts share certain fundamentals, they involve different rules, techniques and expectations.

A dedicated Fight Night revival could give EA an opportunity to explore boxing again without requiring it to fit inside a mixed-martial-arts framework.

Pre-production does not reveal the combat system

EA says the new project will use expertise from its combat-sports simulation team.

The announcement does not identify the development engine, animation technology, control system or physics model.

It therefore provides no basis for promising the exact return of earlier Fight Night mechanics.

A roster of licensed boxers has not been announced either.

The presence of contemporary champions, historic fighters or specific boxing organizations remains unconfirmed.

EA has also not named the game's platforms.

The teaser provides a promise, not gameplay

The promotional image shows boxing gloves hanging above an empty ring.

Its message is simple: Fight Night is returning, and the fight is not over.

There is no gameplay footage, career mode demonstration or technical presentation.

At this stage, the publisher is relying on the reputation of the franchise rather than attempting to demonstrate what its next installment will play like.

The boxing game market has changed

Fight Night is not returning to a completely empty market.

Games such as Undisputed have attempted to provide detailed boxing experiences during EA's long absence from the genre.

The revived franchise will therefore face expectations shaped by more recent releases as well as memories of its own earlier installments.

Licensing may also be important. Professional boxing operates through multiple organizations, promoters and individual agreements.

EA has not disclosed its licensing arrangements, so the next game's roster cannot be established from the announcement.

Respawn and DICE will collaborate on another project

EA's strategic update also confirms that Respawn Entertainment and DICE will work together on a future shooter project.

The company has not disclosed its title, franchise or release schedule.

The collaboration forms part of continued investment in the publisher's shooter portfolio, including Battlefield and Apex Legends.

EA intends to expand Apex with new multiplayer modes and additional experiences, while continuing to support future Battlefield projects.

That does not establish that Respawn and DICE are jointly developing a specific Battlefield installment.

The next reveal is still ahead

The Fight Night project remains in pre-production.

No official release date, beta schedule, price or platform list has been announced.

EA has indicated that it will discuss its new projects further in the coming months.

For now, the milestone is the confirmation itself. After fifteen years without a new installment, Fight Night has an officially announced future, even though the first gameplay reveal remains to be seen.
