EA SPORTS FC 27 launches Friday, and its biggest change is not actually on the pitch
EA SPORTS FC 27 does not have much longer to remain an early-access game. General release is set for September 25, with Ultimate Team, Career and Clubs all returning while The Grounds attempts something more unusual for the series: moving a substantial part of its football life out of menus.

EA SPORTS FC 27 launches worldwide September 25, 2026. Ultimate and Ultimate Plus Edition players have had access since September 18, providing up to seven days of early play.
The Standard Edition is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
EA Play members have also had access to a ten-hour trial during the early-access period.
The Grounds finally gives Clubs somewhere to physically exist
The largest structural addition is The Grounds. On PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2, up to 100 players can share a social football environment built around a central terrace and several districts inspired by different football cultures.
Montclair draws on French urban football, Zeiza on Argentina's potrero culture and Parkside on British working-class football.
Players can meet friends, join small-sided matches and access Clubs activities from the same shared space. Clubs itself gains a visible clubhouse, while leagues, playoffs, Rush and new 11v11 club tournaments all sit inside this broader structure.
Pro development carries across The Grounds through Archetype XP, with limited-time events providing larger rewards and changing rules over the season.
EA says the football itself is becoming less automated again
FC 27 places particular emphasis on player-controlled defending. Automatic tackles, secondary contain behavior and off-ball movement have been adjusted to reduce some AI intervention.
Attacking teammates are supposed to read space and passing intent more effectively, while manual overlapping and underlapping runs can be triggered with greater control.
Crossing and corners have also been reworked.
Current-generation versions add Stumble Dribbling, allowing agile players to retain momentum and ball control through certain physical challenges instead of immediately losing the sequence.
The real test will come after several weeks of competitive play, when every well-intentioned football system has been thoroughly examined by people trying to win as efficiently as possible.
Career Mode finally rebuilds the transfer market
Manager Career receives a completely reworked transfer market. Rival clubs bid more actively, player values react to financial strength, potential and performance, and negotiations gain additional contract tools.
Performance clauses and buy-back clauses can now be part of deals.
Dynamic OVR adds another variable by allowing overall ratings to reflect form, morale and fitness rather than relying only on long-term player growth.
Manager Live Challenges can also be created and customized, expanding a system that previously depended mainly on scenarios supplied by EA.
Ultimate Team turns unused cards into a collection
The FUT Gallery gives Ultimate Team a new long-term collection layer. Player Items can be curated into sets based on clubs, leagues, nations and FUT campaigns.
Completing those collections increases Gallery Level and provides rewards, giving cards outside the active squad another use.
Evolutions become more branching, while solo Live Events expand FUT's single-player structure.
FC Points and randomized purchasable items remain part of the Ultimate Team economy.
FC 27 Lite provides a free entry point
EA SPORTS FC 27 Lite launches September 25 at 16:00 UTC as a free downloadable preview.
It includes selected modes such as Kick-Off and can be upgraded to the full game later.
EA lists Lite for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, EA app, Steam and Epic Games Store. Nintendo versions are not included in the announced Lite platform list.
More than 21,000 licensed players are included
EA lists more than 21,000 players, over 800 clubs and national teams, 140 stadiums and more than 35 leagues.
Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland share the top men's overall rating at 91, while Alexia Putellas also holds a 91 as the highest-rated women's player.
General release arrives Friday. Ultimate Edition players will already have had a full week to decide which parts of the new structure they intend to ignore in favor of opening FUT packs.
