The Division 2 is rebuilding its community around crossplay seven years after launch

Ubisoft has spent years adding missions, seasons and gear to The Division 2. Its next major upgrade works on something much less visible: who players can actually play with. Crossplay arrives in November after what the studio describes as a partial rebuild of the game's online architecture.

Every player will be moved into the crossplay environment when the feature launches. Crossplay will be enabled by default, although it can be switched off from the Character Selection screen.

Leaving it enabled opens matchmaking to players on every supported platform using the same setting. Turning it off restricts the pool to the player's own platform.

Clans are part of the migration

The more consequential social change may happen outside individual missions. Clans will support members from different platforms and their maximum size will rise from 50 to 100.

That matters for a live game entering its eighth year. A mature player population is rarely distributed evenly, and platform barriers can make an active game feel much smaller than its total audience actually is.

Leaderboards will be reset when the system goes live. Ubisoft says leaderboard displays will also reflect players' crossplay settings.

The studio expects the combined population to improve matchmaking health and reduce queue times.

August 27 still has a conventional content update

Year 8 Season 3: Red Horizon launches before any of that network work reaches players. The Cleaners return to Washington, D.C., following Battle for Brooklyn and begin looking for a new source of their purple flame.

The seasonal Modifier system revolves around a Pressure Gauge accumulated through combat. Active and Passive Modifiers alter what players can do with it.

The Toxic PvE Dark Zone is becoming permanent after community feedback. Blackout enters the PvP rotation with the usual power restrictions removed, allowing SHD Watch bonuses, Expertise and Prototype Gear to operate at full strength.

Season 4 is already targeting one of the endgame's frustrations

Prototype Gear will be redesigned to give players more control over progression and customization while reducing its reliance on RNG. Expertise and Augments are included in the changes.

Escalations are also being revised. Season 3 first removes token loss after a disconnect; Season 4 is intended to give players greater control over challenge and rewards.

Central Park is waiting after Washington

The next expansion now has a title: Echoes of Central Park.

Central Park was used as a mass burial site during the outbreak. The expansion begins after a distress call comes from somewhere inside it, sending Agents through the Upper West Side before they eventually enter the park.

Ubisoft is withholding most of the expansion's details until a dedicated showcase on September 24.

Crossplay remains scheduled for November 2026.
