Temple of Osiris hits phones September 8 with four-player co-op and Feral's first try-before-you-buy mobile launch
Feral Interactive is bringing another full console-era Lara Croft game to phones on September 8. Temple of Osiris retains its four-player online co-op, twin-stick combat and puzzles, but its mobile release changes one familiar part of Feral's formula: players will be able to try it before buying it.
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris launches on compatible iOS and Android devices on September 8.
Pre-orders and pre-registration are already open following Feral's August 13 announcement.
Feral is putting the demo inside the full app
The download itself will be free.
Players can complete the opening level without paying, after which a single in-app purchase unlocks the complete game and its additional content.
Feral lists the unlock at $9.99 in the US, €8.99 in Europe and £7.49 in the UK.
There is no announced premium currency or recurring progression economy attached to that model. It is effectively a playable trial attached to a conventional one-time purchase.
The four-player mode survived the move to mobile
Temple of Osiris can still be played alone, but online co-op for as many as four players is part of the mobile version.
Lara Croft and Carter Bell are joined by the Egyptian gods Isis and Horus. In multiplayer, their different tools and abilities are used to approach puzzles and traversal in ways that differ from solo play.
Touch controls are only one option
The isometric combat uses independent movement and aiming, making Temple of Osiris a natural fit for a virtual twin-stick layout.
Feral says the touchscreen controls can be customized, while gamepads are fully supported.
Android additionally supports mouse and keyboard input. Apple's listing specifies mouse and keyboard support on iPadOS.
The Android release starts at Android 13
Google Play lists Android 13 as the minimum operating system and around 3.6GB of required free space.
Feral recommends having roughly twice that amount available during installation.
Instead of publishing one short Android hardware list, the studio uses Google Play device filtering to block purchases on phones and tablets it does not expect to run the game properly.
A12-class iPhones are supported
Apple requires iOS 18 or later and an A12 Bionic-class device or newer.
The compatibility list stretches back to the iPhone XS generation and includes a broad selection of recent iPads.
The App Store also lists the download at 3.6GB.
This is the second isometric Lara Croft game Feral has brought over
Feral previously released Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light on mobile.
Temple of Osiris follows the same arcade-oriented branch of the series, with replayable stages, score chasing, collectibles and timed challenges rather than the structure of the main Tomb Raider adventures.
The company has also ported 2013's Tomb Raider to mobile, gradually turning smartphones into a surprisingly substantial home for older full-scale Lara Croft releases.
The original game is more than a decade old
Crystal Dynamics originally released Temple of Osiris in December 2014 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The mobile edition is therefore a port rather than a new Tomb Raider release.
Its September launch will be judged less on the underlying campaign than on how well its busy combat, puzzles and multiplayer have survived the transition to a touchscreen.
The first level will be available without paying on September 8.
