SOMNIUS turns furniture into ammo, time and co-op trouble

SOMNIUS launched in Early Access on Steam on September 22, giving STFGames a considerably noisier follow-up to Stone Simulator. Its co-op premise revolves around one wonderfully dangerous rule: almost anything inside the dream can be sucked into a vacuum gun, and deciding what to do with it can determine whether the team gets out.

The furniture has two jobs

Each run sends between one and six players into a collapsing dream. The immediate objective is to break the seals, locate the Dreamer and somehow get them back through the portal before the environment is consumed.

The vacuum gun is what holds the whole idea together. It functions as a weapon, inventory and transportation tool, sucking up objects before firing them back into the world. STFGames extends the joke to characters as well: friends and the Dreamer can become cargo if they fit into the system.

Objects are more valuable than simple physics toys. Players can fire them at enemies, but feeding junk into the portal adds seconds to a timer shared by the entire group. A useful projectile and extra survival time can therefore be the exact same chair.

Running out of time changes the map

The countdown is not merely a fail-state display. Once it expires, the dream begins to erase itself room by room. Throwing enough material into the portal can push that collapse back, turning the team's scavenging into a constant trade between immediate combat needs and keeping the run alive.

STFGames also describes changing collections of rooms, enemies and situations between runs. Combined with the physics system, that leaves plenty of space for accidental comedy. One player can be solving the actual problem while another is busy launching the object they needed across the room.

That chaos is not separate from the objective. It is the objective's main complication. SOMNIUS asks a group to cooperate while giving everyone access to a tool capable of rearranging the room, the resources and their teammates.

Early Access starts the longer experiment

SOMNIUS entered Steam Early Access on September 22, 2026 for PC. STFGames says community feedback will be part of its ongoing development process, with suggestions and player discussions feeding into future improvements.

The studio also plans to raise the price when SOMNIUS eventually reaches version 1.0 as additional content and features are added. Steam currently lists the game under Action, Indie and Early Access, with online co-op, Steam Cloud and full controller support among its features.

It is an unusually tidy foundation for a game built around untidy outcomes. Objects are ammunition, ammunition can instead become time, and the person standing beside you can suddenly become a projectile. The dream may be collapsing, but SOMNIUS appears quite happy to let the players make the situation worse first.
