Marvel Cosmic Invasion turns Doctor Doom's castle into a roguelite-inspired challenge on November 10
Doctor Doom is doing more than joining Marvel Cosmic Invasion's playable roster. In The Siege of Castle Doom, the second DLC for Tribute Games' arcade-inspired beat'em up, he is changing the rules. On October 26, 2026, Dotemu revealed a new run-based mode in which players must navigate Doom's fortress before a growing Siege Gauge ends their attempt. Encounters, upgrades and routes will vary between runs. The paid expansion launches November 10 on PC and consoles, alongside playable Doctor Doom and Invisible Woman.
Doctor Doom has rarely needed much encouragement to build a machine capable of threatening the entire universe. In Marvel Cosmic Invasion, his latest invention also provides the foundation for a different kind of gameplay. After confirming that Doctor Doom and Invisible Woman would join the playable roster, Tribute Games and Dotemu have now explained the mechanics of The Siege of Castle Doom. A gameplay trailer released October 26 introduces a mode built around repeated expeditions, branching paths and upgrades. The central objective remains familiar to beat'em up fans: defeat enemies and advance through dangerous environments. This time, however, reaching the final boss depends on more than mastering attacks and combos.
Doctor Doom's castle is designed for repeated expeditions
The Siege of Castle Doom takes place inside Victor von Doom's fortress in Doomstadt. Rather than simply adding more traditional campaign levels, the developers have created a sequence of rooms and encounters intended to change between attempts. Kevin Chiasson, a level designer at Tribute Games, explains on the PlayStation Blog that the team wanted to preserve the immediacy of arcade combat while giving players more meaningful decisions throughout each expedition. Every doorway can lead to a different type of challenge. Some encounters provide upgrades, while others impose temporary restrictions or force players to confront particularly dangerous enemies. The fortress also includes distinctive environments. The Halls of Doom feature medieval torture equipment, the castle battlements are affected by freezing blizzards, and the Tower of Solitude contains hazardous elevator platforms. These locations are intended to become recognizable over time without making every run identical.
Two opposing gauges determine the heroes' fate
The new mode revolves around a system closely connected to its story. At the top of the fortress, Doctor Doom is preparing the Cosmic Inductor, a device intended to grant him enormous power. The machine was originally conceived as a response to Annihilus, the primary antagonist of the base game's campaign. However, Doom's ambitions threaten to turn that defensive project into something much more dangerous. During each expedition, a Siege Gauge represents the growing threat. The gauge increases when the heroes fail against their enemies. If it becomes completely filled before the final confrontation, the run ends. To delay that outcome, players must collect batteries and charge another device: Reed Richards' Stabilizer. Winning encounters and completing challenges contributes to the Stabilizer's progress. The two gauges create a strategic balance between taking risks to obtain stronger equipment and progressing efficiently enough to prevent Doom from completing his plan. Unlike a conventional countdown timer, the threat is linked directly to the team's performance throughout the expedition.
Five door types let players choose their route
At several points, players must choose which room to enter next. Tribute Games has revealed five categories of doors. Equipment doors provide additional abilities, including protective force fields and powerful energy attacks. Events lead to encounters that temporarily change the rules. Depending on the outcome, players may receive bonuses or penalties. Heal restores health, while Infinite doors can provide temporary benefits such as unlimited ammunition or focus. Progression doors award batteries used to charge the Stabilizer. This structure introduces a meaningful distinction between immediate safety and long-term progress. A badly injured team may prioritize healing, while a well-prepared group might pursue an offensive upgrade or more batteries to delay Doom's plan. Success will therefore depend not only on selecting the fastest route but also on choosing one that suits the team's current condition and abilities.
Twelve perks cover offense, defense and tactical abilities
The expansion also introduces twelve upgrades known as Perks. They are divided into three categories: Offense, Defense and Tactical. These options allow players to develop characters suited to the challenges encountered inside the castle. One fighter might prioritize damage output, while another focuses on protection or tactical advantages. Perks apply individually to characters, creating opportunities for complementary combinations. That approach fits Marvel Cosmic Invasion's existing Cosmic Swap system, which allows players to alternate between two heroes during combat. Team composition may therefore affect how players benefit from the available upgrades. However, the official announcement does not disclose the precise effects and numerical values of all twelve perks. Their strongest combinations and actual balance will need to be explored when the DLC becomes available.
More than five times as many possible encounters as the main game
Tribute Games is highlighting one particularly striking figure. According to the developer, Castle Doom contains more than five times as many possible encounters as the main game. That does not mean the expansion will be five times longer. The comparison concerns the number of encounters created for the new mode, alongside additional events, traps and environmental hazards. The potential benefit becomes clear when considering the run-based structure. The same route may play out differently depending on enemy combinations, room choices and upgrades. The developers hope this variety will prevent players from memorizing a single sequence of battles too quickly. However, the actual experience will depend on how meaningfully those encounters differ from one another. A large number of possible combinations does not automatically guarantee that every run will remain interesting. For now, the figure is a developer-stated measure of content variety rather than an independently tested assessment of replay value.
Reed Richards' laboratory provides permanent progression
As in many roguelite-inspired games, failing an expedition does not necessarily mean losing every form of progress. Players can visit Reed Richards' laboratory to unlock features that persist between attempts. These include equipment, events and modifiers that influence future runs. The design creates two layers of progression. During a run, heroes gain abilities and upgrades needed to survive the current expedition. Between runs, players can expand the available options, making subsequent attempts more varied. The developers want repeated play to provide new possibilities rather than simply asking players to complete the same challenge again. Successfully finishing a run also unlocks a new color palette for a hero. That cosmetic reward provides collectors with another objective without being confused with an additional combat ability.
Doctor Doom and Invisible Woman join the playable roster
The expansion is not limited to its new mode. It introduces two playable characters: Victor von Doom and Susan Storm, better known as Invisible Woman. Doctor Doom combines advanced technological armor, powerful weapons and occult abilities. Invisible Woman uses invisibility and force-field manipulation to bring another fighting style to the roster. Both characters were announced on October 8, so their inclusion is not a new revelation from October 26. However, the latest gameplay explanation provides additional context for how they fit into Castle Doom's changing encounters. Their presence also reinforces the expansion's narrative focus. Reed Richards guides the heroes through the fortress, while Doom mocks their attempts to reach him. Susan Storm brings another member of the Fantastic Four into a story centered on their most recognizable adversary. Meanwhile, Doom's status as a playable character creates a deliberate contrast with his role as the mode's main antagonist.
Multiplayer also rewards individual performance
Marvel Cosmic Invasion retains its identity as an arcade-inspired game designed around teamwork. The new perk system allows players to prepare complementary character combinations. Depending on their choices, some heroes may specialize in damage, while others emphasize durability or tactical options. Castle Doom also introduces an MVP system. In multiplayer, the game will display player statistics and recognize particularly effective participants at the end of runs. This does not replace the collective objective. The team must still survive the fortress and confront Doom before the Siege Gauge reaches its limit. Instead, the feature adds another way to highlight individual contributions. Tribute Games has not published a complete explanation of the MVP calculation, so it is not yet possible to determine which specific actions will receive the greatest recognition.
The expansion continues the main game's cosmic invasion
The Siege of Castle Doom connects directly to the narrative established in Marvel Cosmic Invasion. In the base game, Annihilus leads the Annihilation Wave, an assault threatening worlds throughout the Marvel universe. Doctor Doom responds by building his own machine. However, his determination to control the situation creates the possibility of another catastrophic threat. The castle becomes the setting for a new crisis as the heroes attempt to stop Doom from transforming a defensive invention into an instrument of power. The story directly informs the gameplay mechanics. The Siege Gauge represents Doom's growing advantage, while the Stabilizer embodies Reed Richards' efforts to prevent the device from reaching its objective. Rather than adding arbitrary progression systems, Tribute Games has connected the rules to the rivalry between two of Marvel's most recognizable scientists.
New music from Tee Lopes
The expansion also features new original music by Tee Lopes. The composer has contributed to several games that draw inspiration from the sound and style of classic arcade and console productions. In a beat'em up, music plays an important role in establishing the rhythm of combat. It accompanies rapid attacks, transitions between areas and major boss encounters. Castle Doom's combination of gothic architecture and advanced technology offers a different atmosphere from some of the base game's space-themed environments. Dotemu confirms the presence of new tracks without specifying their exact number or total duration. It would therefore be premature to describe the full additional soundtrack based on the trailer alone.
The DLC launches November 10 on PC and consoles
The Siege of Castle Doom is scheduled for November 10, 2026. Dotemu confirms the expansion for PC through Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is paid downloadable content for the existing game. The exact price was not established in the official announcements examined. Marvel Cosmic Invasion itself is already available. Dotemu reports that more than 1.5 million players have experienced the beat'em up. That is a publisher-reported player figure, not a confirmed count of 1.5 million copies sold. The expansion builds on the original game's playable Marvel characters, team-based combat and Cosmic Swap mechanic. No additional platform has been announced as part of the Castle Doom gameplay reveal.
A different rhythm for Marvel Cosmic Invasion
With The Siege of Castle Doom, Tribute Games is moving slightly beyond the structure of a traditional beat'em up. While the main campaign features encounters arranged around a more defined progression, the new mode gives greater weight to route selection, available resources and upgrade decisions. Difficulty will no longer depend exclusively on executing attacks. Players will also have to decide when to take risks and how to distribute abilities across their team. The concept is promising for those who already know the game's characters and want reasons to continue playing beyond the original campaign. However, actual replay value, the balance of the twelve perks and the diversity of encounters cannot be fully assessed before release. For now, the confirmed additions are substantial: Doctor Doom and Invisible Woman join the roster, a run-based challenge arrives, and the developers promise a significantly expanded collection of possible encounters. On November 10, Marvel's heroes will face more than Doctor Doom himself. They will have to learn how to survive a fortress specifically designed to make them try again.
