Cyberpunk 2077 now supports Xbox Play Anywhere, letting eligible owners play on Xbox and PC

Starting Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox Series X, switching to a Windows PC and continuing the same adventure is now easier through Xbox Play Anywhere.

CD PROJEKT RED confirmed the feature in an October 22 Xbox Wire article accompanying the launch of the Edgerunners 2 Update.

While the update introduces new gameplay content, Xbox Play Anywhere changes how eligible players can access a game they already own.

One eligible digital purchase across Xbox and PC

Xbox Play Anywhere allows selected digitally purchased games to be played across compatible Xbox consoles and Windows PCs.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now part of that program.

Players with an eligible Xbox digital license can install the supported version of the game on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC without purchasing a separate license for the base game.

This is especially useful for players who own both types of hardware.

Someone who originally purchased Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox can now access the compatible PC version through the Xbox ecosystem.

The feature is not a temporary free trial or a general giveaway.

It applies to qualifying purchases and supported devices.

Save synchronization preserves progress

CD PROJEKT RED also confirms that game progress carries over between supported platforms.

Players can continue their adventure using the same character after changing devices.

That matters in a role-playing game built around extensive quests, character progression and narrative decisions.

A single playthrough can represent many hours of exploration, combat and customization.

Save synchronization makes it possible to continue that investment without beginning the entire game again.

Players may prefer a television and controller for some sessions and a desktop gaming setup for others.

Xbox Play Anywhere allows eligible owners to move between those environments while maintaining continuity.

Steam and GOG purchases are not automatically converted

The most important limitation concerns where the game was purchased.

Xbox Play Anywhere is associated with eligible digital licenses within Microsoft's gaming ecosystem.

An existing Steam, GOG or Epic Games Store purchase does not automatically become an Xbox Play Anywhere license.

Those storefronts operate under their own commercial licensing systems.

Save compatibility and software ownership are separate questions.

Being able to transfer game progress does not automatically grant the right to install the game through another storefront.

Players should check their entitlement through the Xbox store or the Xbox application on Windows.

Game Pass is a subscription service providing access to a changing catalog of games.

CD PROJEKT RED's announcement does not establish that Cyberpunk 2077 has joined Game Pass.

Players still need a qualifying license to benefit from the new purchase entitlement.

The feature arrives alongside Update 2.5

Xbox Play Anywhere support arrives alongside the Edgerunners 2 Update.

The free patch became available on October 22 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.

It introduces additional story content connected to the anime, dual-wielding for supported handguns and new customization options.

The update also adds selected community mods through mod.io integration.

These additions affect gameplay and available content.
