Elden Ring finally lands on Switch 2, and this is much more than the 2022 base game
Nintendo players have waited a long time for the Lands Between. Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is now available on Switch 2, bringing FromSoftware's original adventure, Shadow of the Erdtree and a small batch of brand-new content together in one release.

August 28 marks Elden Ring's first appearance on Nintendo hardware. The Switch 2 Tarnished Edition includes the complete base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion rather than treating the latter as a separate purchase for newcomers.
That alone makes this a substantial package. Elden Ring had already passed 30 million copies sold by the time Bandai Namco announced this edition, while Shadow of the Erdtree adds an entire additional region filled with bosses, equipment and its own progression systems.
The newcomers are Idus Knight and Heavy Knight
FromSoftware has added two starting classes for this release: Idus Knight and Heavy Knight. They appear during character creation, although existing characters are not locked out of their gear. The corresponding equipment can also be bought from merchants or discovered while exploring the Lands Between.
There are new weapons too, plus three cosmetic sets for Torrent. Tree Sentinel Spectral Steed Attire is found in Stormveil Castle, Silver of Caria in Liurnia of the Lakes, and Funereal Night in Altus Plateau. Once one is obtained, Torrent's appearance can be changed from a Site of Grace.
Two NPC invasion events have also been introduced in Caelid and Leyndell. The Leyndell encounter becomes unavailable once the area has progressed to Ashen Capital.
Existing players get the new material as well
Switch 2 owners receive those additions as part of Tarnished Edition, but they are not exclusive to Nintendo's console. Bandai Namco is also releasing them as the Tarnished Pack for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Patch 1.17 arrived immediately before the DLC and adds support for the pack on those platforms. It also makes another pass at Elden Ring's balance, particularly equipment introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree.
Several throwing weapons have been strengthened or made less stamina-hungry, a number of shields have been adjusted, and FromSoftware has revisited parries, sorceries and incantations. PvP receives its own smaller set of changes.
The important part is still the Switch 2 port
Elden Ring skipped the original Nintendo Switch entirely. Tarnished Edition therefore isn't an incremental upgrade for Nintendo players; it is the first time the game has been available on one of the company's systems.
Nintendo lists TV, tabletop and handheld play, a 40.9 GB file size and online support for up to six players. Online multiplayer requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
For a game originally released in February 2022, reaching Nintendo hardware in August 2026 has taken a while. At least the late arrival comes with Shadow of the Erdtree already packed in.
