Diablo IV finally fits on a Switch, and the port arrives with two expansions and eight classes already packed in

Diablo IV is not reaching Switch 2 three years late as a frozen copy of the 2023 launch build. Blizzard is bringing the current game with it: two expansions, eight classes, Nahantu, Skovos, a rebuilt endgame and the anniversary season. Anyone entering Sanctuary through Nintendo has a considerable amount of demon hunting waiting.

Diablo IV has been available on Nintendo Switch 2 since September 15 through Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection.

The bundle contains the original game, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred.

Nintendo lists a $69.99 US price. Blizzard positions the collection as the straightforward entry point for newcomers who want the complete current story arc rather than purchasing each expansion separately.

Switch players begin with eight classes

The current lineup is Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue, Sorcerer, Spiritborn, Paladin and Warlock.

Spiritborn came with Vessel of Hatred, while Paladin and Warlock belong to Lord of Hatred.

That makes the starting choice substantially larger than it was when Diablo IV originally launched in June 2023 with five classes.

A new Switch 2 player is not entering the old release progression and then gradually buying access to newer archetypes. All eight are part of the collection.

Vessel of Hatred remains the first step beyond the original campaign

The first expansion follows Neyrelle and Mephisto's Soulstone into Nahantu.

It adds the Spiritborn class, the jungle region and a direct continuation of the base game's story.

Lord of Hatred then moves the conflict to the Skovos Isles.

The second expansion advances toward the confrontation with Mephisto while adding Paladin, Warlock and a major endgame overhaul.

Skovos is already included rather than coming later

The timing of the Nintendo release is unusual because Lord of Hatred had already been live for months before Diablo IV reached Switch 2.

Skovos, its towns and dungeons are therefore part of the package on day one.

Its capital Temis becomes a streamlined endgame hub after completing the expansion campaign.

Lord of Hatred also introduced War Plans, allowing players to chain preferred endgame activities together and apply different modifiers while progressing.

The collection therefore represents more than three connected campaigns. It also inherits the permanent systems accumulated since the original release.

Progress can follow you from another platform

Nintendo confirms both cross-platform multiplayer and cross-progression.

A Battle.net account remains mandatory and provides the account layer used to keep progress synchronized across supported platforms.

For existing Diablo IV players, that may be more important than the bundle itself. Switch 2 can function as another machine for an existing account rather than demanding an isolated second character roster.

Online multiplayer supports up to four players.

Two players can also share one Switch 2

Nintendo lists support for two players on a single system.

That retains one useful console characteristic of Diablo IV: local cooperative play does not automatically require two separate machines.

Additional compatible controllers are required for multiplayer on the same system.

Nintendo Switch Online is required for online functions.

Portable does not mean offline

This is the obvious limitation of the concept.

Nintendo and Blizzard both state that Diablo IV requires a persistent internet connection and a Battle.net account.

Putting Sanctuary into handheld mode therefore does not make it a fully offline action RPG for flights, train rides or locations without connectivity.

The hardware is portable. The game remains an online service.

The release lands during Diablo's 30th anniversary season

The Switch 2 version arrives alongside Season of Hell's Legacy.

The anniversary season brings Deckard Cain back as a guide and revisits characters, locations and ideas from across the history of Diablo.

Baal, Mephisto and Diablo all appear among the Prime Evils players confront. Seasonal progression also involves reclaiming fragments of their souls and carrying part of that power.

Blizzard is using gear and rewards inspired by three decades of the series throughout the celebration.

Another class is already planned for 2027

Age of Hatred Collection is not the endpoint for Diablo IV.

Blizzard has confirmed the Amazon for the first half of 2027 through a separate class pack.

The returning archetype uses bows and javelins and is being built around four pillars named Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger and Commander.

That future class pack is not currently presented as part of Age of Hatred Collection.

Switch 2 therefore receives Diablo IV at a peculiar moment: dramatically larger than the game that launched in 2023, yet already moving toward its next wave of content.
